Hello, my name is Ian Blanchard, I have been thatching for 38 years, beginning my experience as an apprentice in 1980 with a well known master thatcher at that time.  Following my apprenticeship and journeyman years as a young thatcher, my work was assessed and I gained my Masters after 10 years of thatching.

I have extensive experience in both straw and reed work and carry out traditional and contempary designs in meeting bespoke thatching requirements.  Many examples of my work can be seen around the country spanning my 38 years, in particular the Suffolk village of Redgrave which has six examples aging from 1 year to 25 years old.

I have lived around the Norfolk/Suffolk border for the last 40 years and have carried out my craft throughout both counties, with much of my work being commissioned from the heritage planning departments of the local council authorities.
